Abhishek Sharma Hits 15-Ball Fifty, Sets SRH Record vs CSK
Abhishek Sharma smashed a 15-ball fifty, the fastest in SRH history, during IPL 2026 against CSK in Hyderabad, setting multiple T20 records.
Hyderabad, April 18 — Abhishek Sharma recorded the fastest half-century in Sunrisers Hyderabad history with a 15-ball fifty against Chennai Super Kings in an IPL 2026 match at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium. His 59 off 22 balls powered SRH to 194, though the hosts slowed significantly after the powerplay.
Abhishek Sharma Sets New SRH Benchmark
Opening the innings, Abhishek Sharma delivered a rapid start, reaching his half-century in just 15 balls, the quickest by a Sunrisers Hyderabad batter in IPL history. The milestone surpassed the previous record he had shared with Travis Head, marking a new benchmark for the franchise.
His innings of 59 runs came off 22 deliveries and included six boundaries and four sixes. The knock provided early dominance in the powerplay, placing pressure on the Chennai Super Kings bowling attack from the outset.
This was also the fastest fifty of Abhishek’s IPL career, highlighting his continued impact as an aggressive top-order batter in the format.
Powerplay Partnership Drives Early Momentum
Abhishek combined with Travis Head for a 75-run opening partnership within the first six overs, giving Sunrisers Hyderabad a strong platform. The pair maintained a high scoring rate, capitalising on field restrictions and attacking both pace and spin.
However, the momentum shifted at the end of the powerplay, with SRH losing two wickets on the final two deliveries of the sixth over. The dismissals disrupted the early rhythm established by the opening pair.
Despite the setback, the powerplay phase remained the most productive period of SRH’s innings.
Multiple Records Extended in T20 Format
Abhishek’s innings added to a series of records in T20 cricket. This was his sixth IPL half-century scored in fewer than 20 balls, the highest by any player in the tournament’s history. No other player has achieved the feat more than four times.
Earlier in the season, he had already surpassed Nicholas Pooran’s record for the most sub-20-ball fifties in IPL history. His latest performance extended that lead further.
Across all T20 cricket, this marked his 10th half-century completed in under 20 deliveries, making him the first player to reach double figures in this category. No other player has recorded more than six such instances.
Additionally, this was the fourth occasion in his T20 career that Abhishek reached a fifty in 15 balls or fewer. No other player has achieved this milestone more than twice, with Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Sunil Narine, and Andre Russell each recording it twice.
His 15-ball fifty also placed him joint-second on the list of fastest fifties against Chennai Super Kings, matching the effort of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi earlier in the season.
SRH Lose Momentum After Strong Start
Despite the explosive beginning, Sunrisers Hyderabad were unable to sustain the scoring rate through the remainder of the innings. After the powerplay, the team managed 119 runs in the final 14 overs, reflecting a slowdown in run accumulation.
Heinrich Klaasen contributed 59 off 39 balls, including six boundaries and two sixes, providing stability during the middle overs. However, the innings lacked the acceleration seen in the opening phase.
The middle and lower order were unable to build on the platform created by Abhishek and Head, resulting in a total that fell short of its early projections.
CSK Bowlers Contain Scoring in Later Overs
Chennai Super Kings bowlers recovered after the powerplay to restrict further damage. Anshul Kamboj and Jamie Overton claimed three wickets each, applying pressure through the middle and death overs.
Overton also dismissed Abhishek Sharma, bringing an end to his aggressive innings and shifting momentum back towards the bowling side.
The disciplined effort in the latter stages ensured that SRH’s total remained within reach despite the early onslaught.
