Riyan Parag Caught Vaping on Camera During IPL
Match - BCCI Demands Explanation
Rajasthan Royals captain Riyan Parag is in trouble after a video showing him vaping inside the team dressing room went viral during RR's IPL 2026 match against Punjab Kings in Mullanpur on Tuesday.
The clip was captured during the live broadcast, apparently during the 16th over of RR's chase. Parag had just been dismissed and was in the dressing room with teammates Yashasvi Jaiswal, Yudhvir Singh Charak, and Kuldeep Sen when the moment was caught on camera.
BCCI Seeks Explanation From Riyan Parag
The BCCI confirmed it will take action.
"We will be seeking an explanation from Riyan on this issue, as vaping is not allowed. Depending on his explanation, the IPL will take further course of action," a board official told The Indian Express.
Is Vaping Illegal in India?
This isn't just a stadium rule issue. India banned e-cigarettes outright under The Prohibition of Electronic Cigarettes Act (PECA), 2019.
The law covers production, sale, purchase, import, export, and advertising of vaping products. Violators face up to six months in prison, a fine, or both.
The BCCI separately prohibits tobacco and related products in dressing rooms and dugouts under its health and safety protocols.
Riyan Parag's IPL 2026 Performance
Parag took over as RR captain after Sanju Samson was traded to Chennai Super Kings.
His bat hasn't been convincing either — nine matches in, he has 117 runs at an average of 14.63 with a highest score of 29. The vaping incident adds pressure to an already difficult season.
RR Defeat Punjab Kings Despite Controversy
Despite the controversy, RR won the match, chasing 222 with six wickets to spare. It was Punjab Kings' first defeat of the season.
Second Rajasthan Royals Controversy This Season
This is the second controversy to hit RR in IPL 2026.
Earlier this season, team manager Romi Bhinder was fined Rs 1 lakh and warned by the BCCI's Anti-Corruption and Security Unit for using a mobile phone in the dugout during the match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Guwahati.
The ACSU investigated and found no serious misconduct beyond the protocol breach.
RR's next game is against Delhi Capitals in Jaipur on Friday.
